Scope of the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care and is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of resident-centered care delivery. The RN provides direct supervision, leadership, and education to members of the healthcare team, acting as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct nursing care and oversee the clinical well-being of residents
- Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized care plans based on residents’ needs and changes in condition
- Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary care teams, families, and external partners
- Administer medications and perform treatments in accordance with professional standards and home policies
- Monitor, document, and report changes in residents’ health status
- Supervise and provide guidance to RPNs and PSWs, promoting teamwork and excellence in care
- Ensure compliance with LTC regulations, infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols, and Ministry standards
- Complete RAI-MDS assessments and update care plans collaboratively
- Manage nursing supplies and maintain an organized and safe environment
- Lead or participate in care conferences, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
- Respond effectively to emergencies with sound clinical judgment
- Uphold residents’ rights, dignity, and person-centered care principles
Job Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience(long-term care or geriatric experience preferred)
- Knowledge of RAI-MDS, IPAC, and LTC regulations (AIS certification an asset or must be obtained within one year)
- Valid CPR certification
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- French language skills is an asset
- Compassionate, resident-focused, and dedicated to continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor front-line staff effectively
